Sewer drains tend to be out of mind as they are out of sight. However, when problems arise with sewer drains, they can cause considerable damage.
Sewer drains begin to cause issues after roots cause a break in the line or old material has been compromised. We work on sewer pipes made from a wide variety of material types, including but not limited to clay cast iron pipes, green PVC pipes, and even old Orangeburg pipes, which tend to start failing within 25 years.
Common Causes of Sewer Line Damage
One of the most common causes of sewer line damage is the growth of tree roots. Tree roots are naturally attracted to moisture, making sewer lines a prime location for growth. If they start to grow in your sewer line, they can cause blockages and adversely affect your pipes.
Another common issue that leads to sewer line problems is pipe corrosion. Buildup of waste and grime, as well as old age can take its toll and once a pipe starts to corrode, it often deteriorates, leading to leaks and other issues. If you notice water backing up, strange noises coming from your pipes or notice drains are not working as efficiently as they should be, you have reason to believe you have a blockage problem.
In addition, foundation shifts can make sewer pipes to crack, causing wastewater to not drain properly. This too can cause leaks, clogs and blockages.
